MIRI, Aug 26: A 24-year-old man was killed while three women were injured after a 4WD vehicle crashed into a tree near the hilltop area of Miri Public Park along Jalan Bintulu-Miri in the early hours today.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Miri responded to the emergency at 3am and firefighters from the station arrived at the scene five minutes later.
According to Bomba, four people were inside the vehicle when the accident occurred. Three female occupants had been removed from the vehicle before rescuers arrived, while the male driver remained trapped in the wreckage.
Firefighters carried out extrication operations using rescue equipment to free the driver from the vehicle.
The victim was later pronounced dead at the scene by a Ministry of Health medical officer and his body was subsequently handed over to the police for further action.
The three female occupants sustained injuries, with one reported to be seriously hurt while the other two suffered minor injuries. All three received initial treatment from medical personnel at the scene before being taken for further medical care.
The operation, led by PBKI Abdul Rahman Rosliee, involved six firefighters and one fire engine from the Miri station.
Rescue operations were brought under control at 3.20am and concluded at 3.53am after the scene was secured. — DayakDaily
