KUCHING, Aug 25: Pesta Asajaya 2026 is shaping up as more than a three-day community celebration, with local entrepreneurs, government agencies, youth and women’s groups set to converge at the event from Aug 28 to 30.
Speaking to reporters at the Maulidur Rasul 1448H/2026M celebration programme at Kampung Tambirat today, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the festival would feature a diverse programme covering religious activities, youth and women’s programmes, entrepreneurship as well as entertainment.
He said the event would bring together residents from the Asajaya District and Sadong Jaya Sub-District, providing a platform for the community to participate in activities while also promoting local businesses and government services.
“Various activities have been lined up, including sales by local entrepreneurs, religious programmes as well as programmes specifically for youth and women,” he said.
He said entertainment activities, including singing performances, would be held at night throughout the festival.
“The night programme will feature local Sarawak artistes on Aug 29, while artistes from Peninsular Malaysia will perform on Aug 30,” he said.
The concert, to be held at the Asajaya Sports Complex, will feature a lineup of artistes including Bella Astillah, Bob Yusuf and Hairee Francis.
Abdul Karim, who is also Asajaya assemblyman said government agencies would also set up exhibition booths to give visitors an opportunity to obtain information on various services and programmes.
A lucky draw will also be held as part of the festival activities.
He expressed hope that the festival venue would attract a strong turnout throughout the three-day event and that favourable weather would contribute to the smooth running of the programme.
Pesta Asajaya 2026 is expected to provide a platform for the local community to participate in recreational and cultural activities while supporting local entrepreneurs and strengthening interaction between residents, agencies and community groups. — DayakDaily
