MIRI, April 5: With effect from today, all passengers arriving at any Sarawak airport from any destination outside Sarawak are required to immediately undergo a 14-day quarantine at designated quarantine centres in the state.

This compulsory requirement is in effect until further notice and is issued by the state government, revealed Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin in a statement released today.

“The quarantine centres have been identified and selected based on the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the Ministry of Health Malaysia,” he disclosed, adding the quarantine is necessary to curb the spread of Covid–19 in the state.

“For this purpose, all airline companies that are still operating flights to Sarawak are required to notify their passengers in advance of this requirement. Passengers must be advised and informed on this requirement when they book or purchase their tickets including through airline websites to avoid any inconvenience upon arrival in the state.

“It is therefore incumbent upon the airline companies that are still operating flights to Sarawak to advise and inform their passengers prior to purchasing their ticket and to those who had already purchased their tickets of the 14-day quarantine period requirement by the State Disaster Management Committee.”

The airlines must also inform and remind their passengers during flights through in-flight announcement of the 14-day quarantine period requirement at designated quarantine centres upon arrival in Sarawak.

“The cooperation and support from all parties especially the airline companies and passengers are needed to ensure the successful implementation of the 14-day quarantine period at the designated quarantine centres as a strategy to stop the spread of Covid-19 in the state,” Lee added. — DayakDaily
