DARO, Oct 23: Political parties based in Peninsular Malaysia could be stronger if they are not so divided, says the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said Malaysia has had three prime ministers in one term due to political parties being not united.

That, he added, is causing disruptions to the economy, stalling development projects and decreasing the country’s investor confidence index.

“All this is happening because they are divided. The Malays there are separated into five parties. They have five parties, all separated.

“But thank God our party in Sarawak is not divided because we focus on the people,” he said during a ‘Leaders with Community’ programme held at an open hall in Daro town here today.

The major Malay Muslim parties in the Malayan political scene are United Malays National Organisation (Umno), Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang).

Recently in August, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad launched a new Malay-Muslim-centric political coalition called Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA). — DayakDaily
