MIRI, Sept 8: A 17-year-old male student was killed after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car along Jalan Tukau near SMK Agama Miri here today.

According to Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, the car, driven by a 27-year-old local man, was travelling from Miri town towards Jalan Bakam.

“Upon reaching Jalan Tukau, the car was entering a right junction when a motorcycle ridden by the victim suddenly collided with the right side of the car,” he said in a statement.

The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant from Miri Hospital at approximately 8.44am. The car driver was uninjured.

The car driver was detained under Section 112 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for allegedly committing an offence under Section 41(1) of the same Act.

Members of the public with information about the accident are urged to assist the investigation by contacting the traffic investigating officer, Insp. Nor Afifah Nordin at 019-5264640 or 085-430479, or any nearby police station.
