KUCHING, Jan 25: Since Jan 1, 2021 until today, a total of 53 medical staff in four hospitals across Sarawak have tested positive for Covid-19.
This was revealed to DayakDaily by Sarawak Health Director Dr Chin Zin Hing.
Out of the 53 medical staff who have been infected with Covid-19, more than 50 per cent, i.e. 28 of these cases are from Sibu Hospital.
The Miri Hospital is also in a worrying situation where 21 of its medical staff have tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus as of today.
Sarikei Hospital has recorded three cases of medical staff getting infected with Covid-19 while in Kuching, Sarawak General Hospital reported one such case.
On Jan 19, in a press conference to give updates on the Covid-19 in the state, Dr Chin revealed 13 medical staff from Sibu Hospital had tested positive for the coronavirus.
On Jan 22, he revealed that a total of 20 staff at Miri Hospital had been confirmed positive for Covid-19.
In both situations, he said once these medical staff were confirmed positive, contact tracing immediately followed, which resulted in the quarantine of even more hospital staff.
For Miri Hospital alone, as of Jan 22, close to 200 hospital staff have been quarantined to minimise the spread, amidst concerns of a grave shortage of medical staff. — DayakDaily.
