KUCHING, Sept 9: A total of 352 students of SMK Bandar Kuching No 1 received their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine at the SJK Chung Hua Pending vaccination centre (PPV) which was handled by the Tanah Puteh health clinic today.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng revealed that the teen vaccination drive at the SJK Chung Hua Pending PPV will continue for 11 other schools in Kuching.

“The vaccination programme will involve 2,938 students aged 16-17 who will receive their first shot of the Covid-19 vaccine at 12 schools here.

“School leavers or those who have dropped out of school will not be left out, so don’t worry.

“Further instructions will be given on the vaccination schedule for the group after the completion of the vaccination for 16 to 17-year-old students who will be going back to school soon,” he explained in a Facebook live during a visit to the SJK Chung Hua Pending PPV today.

At the initial stage of the teen vaccination programme, senior students especially those with morbidities will be given priority to provide them with the vital protection against Covid-19 and to ready them for the reopening of schools, which is expected to fall on Oct 3.

While one parent or guardian is allowed to accompany their children for the vaccination, Wee reminded those heading to the PPVs to adhere to instructions as well as standard operating procedures (SOP), including wearing face masks.

Teens who have not registered themselves for vaccination can do so through the MySejahtera mobile app or the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply website at https://www.vaksincovid.gov.my/en/.
