KUCHING, April 14: A total of 160 students from the Batu Kawah constituency (N14) who sat for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination were recently honoured with incentives and certificates presented by Deputy Premier and Batu Kawah assemblyman Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

According to a media release today, the figure marks a notable increase from 117 recipients last year, reflecting a rising number of students in the constituency achieving outstanding results in the national examination.

All recipients attained at least five As and hail from schools such as SMK Batu Kawa, SMK Jalan Arang, as well as other institutions, though all are residents of the Batu Kawah area.

In his address, Dr Sim, who is also Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, extended his congratulations to parents and teachers for their dedication in nurturing the students, noting that their collective efforts contribute significantly to Sarawak’s development.

“We look ahead to 2030, when Sarawak will be vastly different from what it is in 2025. The Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 is not only about achieving targets quickly, but also about sustaining these outcomes,” he said at the presentation ceremony, which was held at the Ang Cheng Ho Multipurpose Hall along Batu Kawa Road.

He added that Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has channelled a substantial portion of the State’s annual revenue into the education sector to drive talent development, a key pillar in building the State’s future.

Dr Sim also expressed hope that Sarawak’s younger generation will grow to be wiser and more discerning, capable of continuing the State’s progress while making sound judgments and resisting misinformation.

“Wherever your future paths may lead, you should always remember Sarawak as your home and contribute to its advancement,” he reminded students.

He further noted that the Sarawak government continues to support students through various incentives and benefits, including free tertiary education at five universities under the State government.
