MIRI, Sept 8: A total of RM270,000 has been allocated by the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) for upgrading works at the Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) Long Iman Church, as well as the construction of a new pastor’s residence for the convenience of the community.
In a TVS news report, Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala said Unifor had also approved an additional RM70,000 to enable the remaining upgrading works at the church to be completed.
“This additional allocation is important to ensure that the project which has already commenced can be completed, while providing more comfortable facilities for the congregation and local community,” he said after visiting the church yesterday (Sept 7).
He said continued attention to the needs of places of worship in rural and interior areas reflects the Sarawak government’s commitment to ensuring every community has access to proper facilities suited to its needs.
Gerawat said the allocations through Unifor not only focused on physical development but also supported efforts to strengthen community well-being while preserving religious harmony and diversity in Sarawak.
At the same time, he also expressed his appreciation to Unifor for its continued efforts to conduct site visits to assess conditions, project progress and community needs, including in interior areas such as Long Iman.
He hoped the works would be completed as planned and provide long-term benefits to the congregation and the entire Long Iman community. — DayakDaily
