MANILA, Sept 8: Hydrogen may be costly today, but technological advances could eventually lower production costs and make it a more viable energy option, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg says.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), he said emerging technologies could improve the efficiency of hydrogen production while reducing its cost.
“Hydrogen is expensive at the moment but there may be new technologies that can reduce the cost of producing hydrogen,” he said during a Fireside Chat with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) at its headquarters today.
He said Sarawak’s adoption of hydrogen technology for its Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system reflected the State’s approach of preparing for future developments despite the high initial costs associated with emerging technologies.
The Premier said Sarawak’s long-term development planning covered energy, technology, transport and economic growth, while maintaining environmental sustainability and the well-being of its people.
He said governments must remain prepared to adapt to technological changes and anticipate future developments.
“Change is the only constant, and society needs to be prepared to adapt to change and anticipate developments that may occur,” he said.
Abang Johari said Sarawak’s development plans were ultimately aimed at creating a lasting legacy for future generations. — DayakDaily
