MIRI, March 25: Two suspects were arrested for ramming through a Movement Control Order (MCO) roadblocks near Simpang Ngu, Miri-Bintulu road, in Niah on this morning.

No police personnel manning the checkpoint were injured in the 10.15am incident, disclosed Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah.

“The suspects, a woman and her male friend, crashed through the roadblock barriers and made lewd gestures to the enforcement officers manning the roadblock,” said Lim, adding the driver had refused to obey instructions to stop.

Both suspects had allegedly also verbally abused the police.

“Both suspects, locals, were picked up by the police from a longhouse in Suai Niah around 2pm today (Wednesday),” added Lim.

According to Lim, prior to the incident, the suspects were travelling in a black Proton FLX heading towards Bintulu.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 and 279 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants from discharging their duties and rash driving.

The suspects will also be investigated for violating the MCO. — DayakDaily
