KUCHING, May 19: The Golden Hill Villa and Tiara Seni housing projects in Bintulu have been identified as delayed developments and are now under close monitoring by the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government (MPHLG).
In a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Deputy Minister Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, who recently visited both sites, said the ministry is actively addressing the issues to safeguard the interests of affected homebuyers.
The Golden Hill Villa project, developed by Homas Development, has stalled due to ongoing land disputes and encroachment issues, which now require legal intervention.
Some buyers have already moved in without access to clean water and electricity, raising serious health and safety concerns.
As an interim measure, MPHLG will issue a support letter to Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd to allow temporary water supply, even though the project has yet to obtain an Occupation Permit (OP).
At the same time, discussions with Sarawak Energy Berhad are still ongoing to resolve the electricity issue, which involves stricter procedures.
Tiang, who is Pelawan assemblyman, also announced that the Golden Hill Villa project will be declared an abandoned project to enable buyers to restructure their housing loans with the banks.
Meanwhile, the Tiara Seni project is in comparatively better shape. Phase One is currently in the process of applying for the OP, which is expected to be completed within the next two to three months.
The delay was caused by cable theft incidents, and the developer is now working to replace the system.
“We urge them to expedite the process as buyers have waited long enough. We want no more excuses moving forward,” Tiang reportedly said.
He also shared that MPHLG has mobilised a special task force to identify and monitor housing projects that have been delayed for more than a year throughout Sarawak, including in Bintulu, Kuching, and Miri.
In a general statement, Tiang issued a stern warning to developers who fail to complete their projects as promised.
“We cannot allow buyers to continue being victims. If developers refuse to fulfil their responsibilities, we will take firm action.
“This includes blacklisting the company, forfeiting their deposit, and taking legal action,” he stressed. – DayakDaily
