KUCHING, May 20: Sarawak’s push towards a green economy will advance on June 11 with the official launch of the Bintulu Transitioning Industrial Cluster (TIC) which is set to build on the existing industrial strengths of the Bintulu-Samalaju corridor spanning gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), petrochemicals, hydrogen, metals processing, fertilisers and renewable energy.

Delivering his winding-up speech during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the TIC marks another milestone in strengthening collaboration among key stakeholders to promote economic growth and reduce carbon emissions, bringing together more than 20 stakeholders from government, academia and industry to drive low-carbon innovation.

“The initiative is designed to foster closer cooperation between industries, government agencies and academia in driving digitalisation, decarbonisation and low-carbon innovation across the industrial ecosystem.

“Under the World Economic Forum framework, the initiative is part of the State’s continued efforts to modernise its industrial base alongside the advancement of its green economy agenda,” he said.

Abang Johari said the cluster has the potential to position Bintulu as a leading regional centre for industrial transformation, particularly in emerging low-carbon technologies and sustainable industrial practices.

The launch is expected to further strengthen Sarawak’s efforts to attract investment, enhance industrial competitiveness and support long-term economic resilience through structured collaboration between public and private sector players. — DayakDaily
