KUCHING, Oct 29: All tuition centres, kindergartens and nurseries in Kuching will be closed for two weeks starting tomorrow (Oct 30) until Nov 13.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas emphasised that this measure was in line with the Ministry of Education (MOE) announcement on closure of all schools in Kuching, following the district being reclassified as Covid-19 red zone.

“Earlier on, the MOE has announced that 209 schools in Kuching will be closed for two weeks. They include primary and secondary schools under MOE as well as Teachers Education Institutes, matriculation colleges and private schools,” he told a press conference on Covid-19 situation in Sarawak here today.

As for the several schools near Kampung Haji Baki but are under either Padawan or Samarahan jurisdiction, Uggah explained that only two schools within Kampung Haji Baki will be closed while the rest will operate as usual.

“As for now, schools closure order is for Kuching district only. We note that districts such as Lundu, Serian, Kota Samarahan are very close to Kuching.

“But it is a very delicate situation but SDMC will continue to observe the (Covid-19) situation and if necessary, we will intervene with appropriate measures,” he added. —DayakDaily
