KUCHING, Aug 29: A traditional English tea house, which is set to become an attraction following the Kuching Waterfront beautification project, is expected to start operating this year, said Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

The Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister said he was made to understand that the tea house’s progress has been doing well despite experiencing slight delays.

“Presently, it (construction) is taking off well, and at least now we can see the structure.

“The officiating and launching ceremony, I believe, will be this year,” he said in a press conference held at his office in Baitulmakmur Building II here today.

Abdul Karim explained that his ministry has also been informed to find an operator for the premises.

“Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg also wants the operator to bring back the old days of how English tea houses operated,” he added.
