KUCHING, Aug 29: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak expressed appreciation to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas for highlighting the issue involving the termination of contracts for 18 critically delayed projects.

Central Leadership Council (MPP) member Abun Sui Anyit from PKR Sarawak hoped the Sarawak government not only terminated the failed contractors and appoint new ones but that it may conduct a forensic audit of all the failed projects to avoid similar failures in the future.

He proposed that after the forensic audit if there are elements of corruption, those involved may be brought to court.

“If no stricter measures (are) implemented by the Sarawak government, my concern (is) that Sarawak under the GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) government will continue to fail to develop the region despite the government’s many visions.

“Not only projects mentioned in the news but even smaller or minor projects failed to take off even though they were promised many years ago,” said Abun Sui in a statement today.

He held that the Sarawak government must buck up to enforce progressive measures to ensure all approved projects are completed to develop Sarawak.

On August 23, Uggah announced that contracts for 18 critically delayed projects in Sarawak worth RM563 million have been or are to be terminated soon.

They are among the 95 projects worth RM10.357 billion listed as critically delayed projects up to June this year. — DayakDaily
