KUCHING, Aug 29: With the launch of Timberland Medical Centre’s (TMC) Centre of Excellence in Cardiology and the successful installation of its new angiography and angioplasty system, heart patients in Sarawak and Borneo can look forward to higher quality care and more advanced treatments.

The new digital cardiovascular imaging system will benefit patients by providing superior image quality at the lowest possible radiation dose while improving TMC’s cardiologists’ ability to assess and plan more complex procedures with greater accuracy and precision.

Deputy Premier of Sarawak Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian officiated at today’s launch of the centre with its new angiography and angioplasty system, as part of TMC’s multi-year programme to continuously upgrade its facilities and capabilities as a leading private hospital serving local and foreign patients.

“A blocked artery can be dangerous, especially if it prevents one of the body’s most vital organs, such as the heart, brain, or kidneys, from receiving oxygen required to keep you alive and functioning,” Dr Sim said.

He explained that angioplasty is a procedure that opens blocked coronary arteries caused by coronary artery disease, restoring blood flow to the heart muscle without requiring open-heart surgery.

Meanwhile, TMC medical director and founding doctor Dr Denis Yu Hee Yong stated, “Since TMC’s inception 28 years ago, we have been unwavering in our commitment to provide quality and cost-effective healthcare to our patients as a trusted healthcare service provider for both local and foreign patients.”

Furthermore, TMC chairman Chik Wai Chiew noted, “TMC has stayed ahead as a leading private hospital since its founding in 1994 by continuously deploying new technologies and solutions to equip our doctors and staff to provide the highest standards of care for our patients.”

Chik added that throughout and beyond the pandemic, they would continue to upgrade and invest in their equipment, facilities, and capabilities across multiple centres of excellence to serve patients better.

TMC’s Centre of Excellence in Cardiology treats thousands of patients yearly for cardiac issues such as heart attack, heart failure, and irregular heartbeat.

The hospital provides treatment for coronary angioplasty, coronary stenting, pacemaker implantation, and imaging-guided biopsies.

The new angiography system will allow the hospital to treat more complex procedures like peripheral vascular disease, embolisation, and targeted chemotherapy. — DayakDaily
