MIRI, Dec 8: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) incumbent for Piasau, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew has said that plans are in the works to complete the utilities infrastructure in Tudan Desaras, despite what the Opposition is saying.

When posed on a question related to the settlement area regarding several issues the Opposition has brought up about the delay of utilities, Ting said the State government is in the midst of carrying out the plans.

“Some infrastructure such as treated water supply have been carried out successfully into the settlement, and for electricity, the works are ongoing, despite some delays due to several obstacles,” he said on Wednesday during a press conference held at SUPP Piasau conference room here.

He pointed out that even though Tudan was not under the purview of his constituency, he had always felt obligated to render his assistance to them.

Ting assured those in Tudan Desaras settlement that he was always there to assist them in any way.

Meanwhile, citing various development projects in Piasau, Ting disclosed that more than 90 per cent of projects under his Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) have been completed.

“A few are still in various stages of being built but most (of the projects) are completed,” he said.

From 2016 to 2021, a total RM522,494,563.49 worth of allocations were disbursed to fund various development projects, and this included the extension of Miri Hospital building, Miri City Hall, Smart City and more.

The Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) has also disbursed a total RM6 million in allocations to 21 religious groups in his constituency, from 2017 to 2021.

“Through the Projek Penambahbaikan Rumah Rakyat Miskin Sarawak (PPRMS), in Piasau constituency, since 2018 until now, a total 387 househoulds have benefited from the programme with allocations amounting to RM4 million,” he said.

This proves the State government’s long term commitment to the people’s wellbeing, he added.

Ting won the Piasau seat in the 2016 Sarawak Election after defeating Alan Ling of Democratic Action Party (DAP) in a straight fight with a majority 2,112 votes.

He garnered 7,799 votes while Alan Ling polled 5,687 votes.
