MUKAH, Aug 14: The Sarawak government has been urged to advance the expansion of Mukah Stadium into its second phase, which would include an indoor stadium, a multipurpose court, a synthetic field for hockey and football on the existing site that has been planned for nearly 10 years.
Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine underscored the importance of this facility in meeting the needs of the Mukah community and that the expansion would align Mukah’s development with other divisions like Bintulu and Sibu.
“Mukah has produced numerous talents in various sports, including hockey, football, taekwondo, and wushu.
“These athletes have recently achieved significant success at both the Sarawak and national levels,” he said in his speech when addressing the Leaders with the People gathering at Kingwood Resort last night (Aug 13), which was attended by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and other distinguished guests.
Royston also called for the development of more low-cost or affordable housing to address the needs of newly married couples and families who are currently sharing homes.
He mentioned that ample land is available at Lot 981 Block 76 and Mutiara Indah Lot 2 in the Mukah Land District, owned by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), which could be developed into affordable housing.
“It is our hope that the people of Mukah have the opportunity to own their own homes under the government’s housing schemes. This would greatly benefit the community,” he pointed out. — DayakDaily
