KUCHING, April 25: The popular Ranchan Pool, also known as Ranchan Point, in Serian is set to undergo a significant facelift, with plans in place to improve and upgrade its facilities.
Serian District Council chairman Datuk Peter Minos said sufficient funding for the project has already been approved, and the council has been tasked with implementing the improvement works.
“Ranchan Pool used to be a favourite retreat for many Kuching residents who came to enjoy the natural surroundings, including the waterfall, the pool at its base, and the surrounding primary jungle,” he said in a statement today.
However, he noted that over the years, the facilities at the site—including the canteen, toilets, baruk, and chalets—have deteriorated and are now in dire need of repair and enhancement.
An architect consultant with expertise in landscaping, tourism, and local cultural elements will be appointed to lead the design and planning process before upgrading work begins.
Minos also shared the council’s vision to reintroduce Ranchan as a key cultural and nature-based attraction in Sarawak once the improvements are completed.
“Our plan is to promote Ranchan as one of Sarawak’s beautiful tourist and cultural centres,” he said.
In addition to Ranchan, the council is eyeing another potential nature attraction along the Serian-Tebedu Road. The site, which features a large waterfall and a mountain stream, is tentatively named “Tebedu Waterfall.”
“We will look for funding and implement the project once a suitable location is confirmed,” Minos added.
He emphasised the importance of embracing Sarawak’s natural beauty for tourism development, especially as more people from urban areas like Kuching seek refuge from the “concrete jungle.” – DayakDaily
