MIRI, Feb 3: Landslides that hit the junction of Daleh Long Pelutan or Long Miri in Baram following heavy rain since yesterday have cut off road access to the village.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau and his entourage, who encountered the blocked roads, were forced to make a U-turn back to Miri this morning.

Dennis was on his way to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Temenggong Datuk Oyong Lawai Jau in Long San to officiate the school’s excellence award programme today at 10.30am.

“However, upon reaching the area at around 9am, we could not proceed as the road was completely cut off by the landslides,” said Dennis.

SMK Temenggong Datuk Oyong Lawai Jau, Long San is situated about five hours away from the city via the logging road from Long Lama.

“We left Miri at about 5.30am this morning to reach the school,” he added.

Several other villages were also affected by the incident.

He added that he had contacted the relevant companies to arrange for repair works to the affected area.

Dennis also reminded his constituents and those traveling using this road to be extra careful and vigilant to avoid any untoward incidents. — DayakDaily
