Minister wants slice of revenue cake for women entrepreneurs, preschool fee subsidy

Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah

KUCHING, Feb 3: Sarawak Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah hopes to have a portion of Sarawak’s revenue, which has been valued at RM11.9 billion for the year 2022.

She said the revenue, which is the highest ever performance achieved by Sarawak, is due to maverick revenue engineering by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg through Sarawak Sales Tax (SST), his sense of purpose and clear vision of what he wants for the State’s economy and her people as well as his unwavering commitment to achieve his vision.

“With the revenue collected, it is my hope that some of it will go to my ministry as capital grant to empower women engaged in cottage, small and medium-sized industries.

“This capital grant can help them (women entrepreneurs) to purchase equipment and raw materials for their business. This social enterprise is crucial to reduce hardcore poverty in rural as well as urban areas,” she said in a statement today.

She also mentioned that the ministry would also welcome an allocation for it to provide a subsidy for working parents who send their children to registered private preschool or nurseries.

“This is an important support system which can help retain women in the workforce and enhance productivity in their work,” she added. — DayakDaily
