KUCHING, April 30: Sarawak civil servants playing the role of tourism ambassadors will realise Sarawak Tourism Board’s (STB) vision of making Sarawak a premium tourism destination of choice.

STB chief executive officer Sharzede Datu Salleh Askor said the second phase of STB’s Ambassadorship Programme targeting the participation of Sarawak Civil Service members will follow the success of its previous programme back in 2020, considering that the civil servants hold a unique position of trust and influence within the society.

“The civil service has the power to inspire change, to lead by example, and to showcase the best of what Sarawak has to offer. They are the face of our government, and their actions speak volumes about our commitment to excellence in hospitality and service,” she said during the launch of Sarawak Tourism Ambassadorship Programme held at Sarawak State Library (Pustaka) here today.

Building upon the success of previous collaborations, such as the first phase of Ambassadorship Programme involving 1,000 e-hailing drivers, and the partnership with the Sarawak Tourist Guides Association (SkTGA) for licensed tourist guides, as well as reaching almost 700 participants of Public Tourist Guides through Pustaka’s e-Pandei, Sharzede said the second phase of the ambassadorship programme represents a natural progression in STB’s efforts to engage diverse stakeholders in its tourism endeavours.

“As we embark on the second phase of the Ambassadorship programme, this time with the Civil Services, we look forward to building upon the successes of earlier phase and further amplifying the impact of our ambassadors in championing Sarawak’s tourism industry.

“Through continued collaboration and engagement, we are confident that our ambassadors will play a pivotal role in realising our vision of making Sarawak a premier tourism destination of choice,” she added.

The event was officiated by Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (Tourism) Datuk Sebastian Ting who represented the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Also present were STB chairman Dato Dennis Ngau, Senator Datuk Robert Lau, Pustaka’s Board of Management deputy chairman Datu Dr Rashidah Bolhassan, and Pustaka’s deputy chief executive officer (Operation) Wan Mazli Wan Razali. — DayakDaily
