KUCHING, July 21: No one has been left behind in the State’s entire Covid-19 vaccination drive, says the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China Dato Sri Tiong King Sing.

He said in pursuing a rapid vaccination rollout to stem the coronavirus’s spread, the Sarawak government has taken the unique geographical features of Sarawak into account.

He noted district and municipal health offices have despatched mobile vaccination teams to proactively enter remote rural areas, including high risk ones, to reach the people there.

“We firmly believe that by actively implementing this precise policy, with the help and cooperation of the Sarawak people, we will be able to realise the goal of reaching herd immunity as soon as possible.

“Then, the economic recovery will be able to begin in earnest,” said Tiong in a statement today.

Despite many severe challenges to contain Covid-19, he said, Sarawak’s vaccination rate has reached 77.30 per cent, making it the highest in the country.

“The forward-looking decision-making in the face of the many challenges has been a key factor in mitigating the worst of the pandemic. It also depended strongly on the unique spirit of unity and cooperation at all levels among Sarawakians,” said Tiong.

He added, the well-being of the Sarawak people has always been his deepest concern, and believed that only through actual development can the quality and standard of life in Sarawak be improved.

In order for Sarawakians to feel substantial improvements in their living standards, he said they must create a fertile foundation for Sarawak’s continued economic growth, and a better society where people can live and work in peace and contentment.

Tiong who is also the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president said Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will continue to invest in measures that best suit local conditions to better help the people.

“Funding infrastructure upgrades in each region is one of the ways to pave the way to future investments. We are clear that if there is no practical and progressive implementation of development, everything else is just empty talk.

“In the days to come, I hope that the people will continue to work together to firmly put the ‘Sarawak First’ slogan into action by pursuing Sarawak’s rejuvenation and social progress, as the people sing the song of the State’s self-reliance and self-sufficiency,” said Tiong.

Meanwhile on Sarawak Day which is tomorrow, Tiong who is also the Bintulu MP said Sarawak, the beautiful homeland with rich resources, and diverse cultures, is a “shining jewel”.

“In celebrating Sarawak Day, we have much for which to feel pride and be gratified (sic). My sincere well wishes and thoughts go out to everyone that calls Sarawak home,” said Tiong. — DayakDaily
