MIRI, Sept 15: Nurse Jessie Paya Jok, 44, who was killed in a helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Baram, last Tuesday (Sept 8), was laid to rest at the Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) Cemetery in Lambir here on Monday (Sept 14).
According to a TVS news report, she was buried at about 4.55pm in a deeply sombre atmosphere, with family members, colleagues, and members of the community present to pay their final respects.
Jessie’s mother, Mujan Ngau, 59, met Jessie after the burial ceremony and described her as a loving daughter who never hurt her feelings.
She said Jessie would also help with household chores after returning from work and never complained.
“I loved her very much. She never scolded me or said anything hurtful to me,” she said, adding that she also accepted Jessie’s passing as God’s will.
Jessie was among the five who were on board the Flying Doctor Service helicopter when it crashed.
The other victims were pilot Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, 30; medical officer Dr Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin, 33; assistant medical officer Alexson Adit Henry, 31; and nurse Debra Moset, 40.
All five remains were handed over to their respective next-of-kin after the identification process through DNA analysis was completed on Sept 1.
Zainol was laid to rest at Masjid Bandar Baru Senawang in Seremban, while Dr Ainul was laid to rest at Masjid Al Karomah Mukim Baung Besar, Pengkalan Chepa, in Kelantan.
Alexson was laid to rest at the Lambir Anglican Cemetery, Miri, while Debra’s remains were brought back to Kampung Semadang, Padawan, here for burial. — DayakDaily
