SIBU, Oct 28: Citizen Middle School is set to rebuild its hostel after an encouraging fundraising campaign, which also saw a contribution of RM500,000 from Lee Foundation—Singapore’s largest private charitable foundation.

According to Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Dudong chairman Wong Ching Yong, this is the first time an independent Chinese school in Sarawak has received such a big contribution from a private charitable organisation.

Speaking at a press conference today, Wong said after the school hostel was burnt down in October 2020, he launched the ‘One Person, One Ringgit’ fundraising campaign and sought allocations through various channels to reconstruct the hostel and brought up the issue to the management team of Chinese Weekly, a weekly news magazine.

“They immediately suggested applying to the Lee Foundation for financial assistance, and they will strongly support the school’s application submitted on July 31, 2023.

“The Lee Foundation approved RM500,000 for the school on Oct 19,” he said. — DayakDaily
