Second day of search for missing 12yo boy in Kampung Jalan Giat Mara comes up empty

SEBUYAU, May 21: A search and rescue (SAR) operation for a 12-year-old boy who is feared to have drowned at Kampung Jalan Giat Mara continued for the second day today, without any sign of the missing boy.

According to the initial police report on Sunday (May 19), the boy was last seen at 9.30am, wearing a brown short-sleeve shirt and black long pants, leaving the house with a group of friends.

He was reportedly playing near the stone wall along the shoreline of Kampung Giat Mara.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak stated that initial efforts to locate the victim around Kampung Sebuyau were in vain.

Firefighters from the Simunjan Station launched the SAR operation after being alerted by the police yesterday (May 20) at 2pm.

Today’s operation was divided into two teams with one conducting a land search covering a two-kilometre radius, while the other performing surface searchers along the river, covering six kilometres from upstream to the estruary of Triso River, where the victim is feared to have drowned.

Assets, including boats from various agencies such as Bomba, the maritime agency, Civil Defence Force (APM), Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) and villagers, were deployed.
