SIBU, March 10: Singapore’s low-cost airline Scoot which will be flying to Sibu starting June 3 is being urged to revise the flight schedule to facilitate tourists, especially the elderly and children.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Dudong chairman Wong Ching Yong said the 5.25am flight from Singapore to Sibu is too early, and might force tourists to stay at expensive hotels at Changi Airport.

“For me, it’s good to have Scoot to come in, but the timing is not friendly.

“The flight from Singapore to Sibu, is at 5.25am every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, while Sibu to Singapore is at 7.50am. The flight (from Singapore to Sibu) is too early.

“Because of this, passengers will have to spend the night in Singapore, and hotels in Singapore charge in Singapore Dollars, which is expensive. For example, a five-star hotel at the airport (in Singapore), is about RM1,325 per night, while for a three-star hotel, it is RM601 per night. The minimum hotel charge is about RM400 (per night),” he told reporters at the Dudong SUPP Mobile Service Counter operation here today.

The flight schedule for Singapore-Miri, Wong said, is more ‘friendly’.

“Singapore-Miri (flight) is at 4.55pm, while Miri-Singapore is at 7.40pm. So, this is a friendlier time.

“Hopefully the time for the Singapore-Sibu flight can be changed. I hope the airline will consider rescheduling to a more friendly time,” he added. — DayakDaily
