SRI AMAN, July 31: SK Melugu in Sri Aman has received a major upgrade with a new RM7.5 million academic block and hostel facilities, providing its students with a safer, more conducive environment to learn and grow.
According to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the new facilities were built under the RM1 billion allocation for Phase 1 of the Redevelopment of Dilapidated Schools in Sarawak.
Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the project includes a modern academic block and a hostel block that can accommodate 50 male and 50 female students.
“The construction of these new facilities provides a more conducive, safe, and comfortable learning environment for students. It also improves the quality of teaching and learning and supports human capital development in rural areas,” he said during the officiating ceremony of the Sarawak Dilapidated Schools Redevelopment Project under the RM1 billion allocation at SK Melugu today.
Awene Era Warisan Sdn Bhd carried out the project, which began on March 13, 2020, and was completed on July 30, 2022, at a cost of RM7.5 million.
Sagah said the project reflects the continued commitment of both the federal and Sarawak governments to ensure rural students enjoy educational facilities on par with those in urban areas.
He said educational transformation must be driven not only by improved infrastructure but also by a quality education system, capable teachers, and a learning environment that prepares students for future challenges.
Also present were Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, Bukit Begunan assemblyman Datuk Mong Dagang, and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datu Adana Jed.
SK Melugu currently has 249 students, including preschool pupils, as well as 26 teachers and eight support staff members. — DayakDaily
