KUCHING, Aug 15: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, along with Social Security Organisation (Socso) director Tan Phang Chia and his officer, recently paid a visit to Bong, a widow residing in Stampin Resettlement Scheme who is facing severe financial hardship as a result of a critical illness.

According to a press release, Bong, a former cashier at a local supermarket, had to leave her job last year after being diagnosed with a debilitating illness. Unable to work, she was relying on donations and support from relatives and friends.

A relative of Bong had previously approached Yap and asked for his help in obtaining financial assistance for Bong’s invalidity pension due to critical illness, from Socso.

During the visit, Tan delivered the news that Bong’s application for an invalidity pension had been approved, and she would begin receiving monthly payments of RM1,113.13 from the organisation.

“Critical illnesses are severe health conditions that can significantly impact a person’s life, both physically and financially. These illnesses often require expensive medical treatments, which can create a substantial financial burden.

“Perkeso (Socso) recognises this and provides assistance to insured individuals diagnosed with critical illnesses, helping to cover the substantial medical expenses associated with these conditions.

“To be eligible for a Perkeso claim for critical illness in Malaysia, applicants should have been contributing to Perkeso before the critical illness diagnosis and must be certified as a critical illness by a qualified medical practitioner,” the release stated. — DayakDaily
