KUCHING, May 27: The old police station building in Siniawan will be turned into a Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) museum.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Sarawak police commissioner Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said it could also become a tourist attraction in Siniawan town.

“The construction process will be carried out next year with an initial cost estimate of RM6 million, and the Sarawak government has agreed to bear all expenses to develop the museum,” he told a press conference after the inauguration ceremony of the new police station in Siniawan Town yesterday (May 26).

Meanwhile, Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh said the old Sinawan police station is one of the oldest in Sarawak and has gone through four eras, from Brooke’s reign to the current government.

“It is full of history, and that’s why when I discussed (the matter) with the district police chief to build a new police station here, the old station will be turned into a police museum,” he said.

He added that the museum is an exhibition and acts as a learning centre for the younger generation to understand the police’s struggle to ensure the safety and prosperity enjoyed today.

“It is important for everyone to ensure that history is preserved because the current generation lives in peace, but they do not know the sacrifices made by our security personnel in the past,” he said. — DayakDaily
