BAU, Sept 15: The annual Siniawan Country Music Festival is set to return on Oct 6 and 7 at Siniawan Bazaar, according to an announcement by Serumbu assemblyman Miro Simuh.
This year’s festival, the sixth edition, is expected to feature performances by nine music bands, including both local acts and groups from Kuala Lumpur.
Additionally, two solo performers from Penang and a local artist will take the stage during the two-night event.
Miro anticipates that the festival will draw around 12,000 visitors over the two nights, with the possibility of an even higher turnout.
He noted that the event is considered one of the largest in the country and has previously attracted attendees from Indonesia and Singapore.
Previous editions of the festival have also contributed significantly to the local economy, generating approximately RM1 million in revenue for local businesses.
However, Miro expressed regret that this year’s festival will not feature international music bands as in previous editions, primarily due to the ongoing delays in the Siniawan Waterfront project.
He explained that efforts to bring an Indonesian music band to the event were hindered by the incomplete waterfront project, which has been a source of local frustration.
Miro expressed hope that the waterfront project will be completed by the next year’s festival, allowing for an even larger-scale event that would benefit the local business community.
He extended his gratitude to the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Bau District Office, and Bau District Council, among others, for their support.
Bau District Officer Constantine Gerald David Jonas, who was present at the press conference, lauded the festival’s positive impact on the local community and tourism, emphasizing that it aligns with ongoing development efforts in the area. — DayakDaily
