KUCHING, July 30: The federal government has agreed to relinquish its rights over the former Rajang Area Security Command (Rascom) site in Sibu, paving the way for the land to be returned to the Sarawak government.
The decision was approved by the Cabinet during its meeting on Wednesday (July 29), according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) on Thursday (July 30).
The land transfer covers four areas in Sibu, namely Nanga Tada, Nanga Jagau, Nanga Ngungun and Nanga Sekuau, spanning a total area of 3,655.6 hectares.
NRES said the move reflected the federal government’s continued commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Sarawak government and advancing the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
The ministry added that since 2023, the federal government had approved the return of 64 parcels of federally owned land in Sarawak to the State government.
“The government remains committed to ensuring that the management of Federal government land and assets is carried out efficiently, transparently and in the spirit of cooperation between the Federal and State governments for the benefit of the people and the nation’s prosperity,” NRES said as reported by Bernama News. — DayakDaily
