KUCHING, Jan 7: BIM (Malaysian Sign Language) will continue to be taught in SeDidik’s preschools and kindergartens, says Minister for Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.

She said the initiative to include BIM in the syllabus is part of the ministry’s effort to educate the young generation about sign language.

“This year, we will intensify the efforts. I think we will be able to cover all the preschools and kindergartens under SeDidik in the whole of Sarawak,” she said when launching Sarawak Deaf Culture Book 2023 at Sarawak Deaf building here today.

Fatimah also commended the Sarawak Society for the Deaf (SSD) chairman Albert Wong and his committee members for coming up with the Sarawak Deaf Culture Book.

She said the book will help create more awareness among the people about the deaf community’s issues, challenges, and aspirations.

“So we, under my Ministry representing the government, would like to convey our congratulation to the committee members,” she added. — DayakDaily
