Sarawak Ports Authority Bill among five to be tabled in upcoming DUN sitting

KUCHING, May 4: The Sarawak Ports Authority Bill will be among the five bills to be tabled in the upcoming Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting that will take place from May 6 to May 15.

The minutes of motion for the Sarawak Ports Authority Bill 2024 were read out by DUN Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, with one of the motions of the bill is to streamline and consolidate the management, operations, planning, and development of all port authorities in the State under a new central port authority known as the Sarawak Port Authority.


ā€œSecond, to reform the governance structure and regulate framework for port operation in Sarawak, including harmonisation of port dues, vessel dues, port charges, and fees.

ā€œThird, to make provision for the privatisation of port management and operation and port undertaking in the State,ā€ said Mohamad Asfia as he gave a cursory description of the Sarawak Ports Authority Bill that is to be tabled in the upcoming DUN sitting.

According to Mohamad Asfia, the Sarawak Ports Authority Bill will be tabled by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, with its first, second, and third readings to take place on May 7.

Among the other bills to be tabled are the Supplementary Supply (2023) Bill, Supplementary Supply (2024) Bill, Protection of Public Health (Amendment) Bill, and Sarawak Forestry Corporation (Amendment) Bill. ā€” DayakDaily
