Sibu’s Durin Bridge flooded, JKR Sarawak monitoring situation

KUCHING, March 21: The areas surrounding Durin Bridge in Sibu have been inundated by flooding, triggered by rising water levels in the Batang Rajang River and persistent heavy rainfall.

The affected roads are only passable to heavy vehicles.

In a Facebook post, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said, “As a precautionary measure, I request that JKR Sarawak take immediate action to monitor the flood situation affecting the roads, especially on the Pan Borneo Highway.”

According to a notice issued by JKR Sarawak, as at 8am this morning, the roads affected at Durin Bridge are impassable for small and light vehicles.

JKR Sarawak has put up safety notices to warn road users about the flood situation there.

“I urge all road users to be more vigilant with the current situation and always comply with the authorities’ instructions for everyone’s safety,” Nanta said. – DayakDaily
