MIRI, April 23: The Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) will mark its 50th anniversary with a golden jubilee celebration dinner this Friday, April 25, at 6.30pm at the Mega Hotel Miri.
Themed “Towards Press Freedom and Professionalism” with a “gold glamour” dress code, the gala event will be graced by Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Distinguished attendees will include Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting, Deputy Ministers in the Premier’s Department Datuk Abdullah Saidol, Datuk Gerawat Gala, and Miri City Mayor Yii Siew Sang.
NSJA president Chai Chon Chin and organising chairperson Clare Cinderella have expressed their deep appreciation to elected officials, associations, and business entities whose steadfast support has been instrumental to the association’s success throughout the years.
Founded on March 4, 1975, the NSJA will commemorate its legacy by honouring journalists’ contributions to the field. The ceremony will include the presentation of Long Service Awards to 38 Northern Sarawak journalists who have dedicated over a decade to journalism.
The recipients are categorised by their years of service: six journalists will be celebrated for 10 years of service, five for 15 years, nine for 20 years, eight for 25 years, another eight for 30 years, one for 35 years, and one for an impressive 40 years of commitment.
The NSJA Leadership Contribution Award will also be presented to former association presidents who served simultaneously as president of the Federation of Sarawak Journalists Association during their tenure.
Lucky draws also await guests of the dinner.
This milestone celebration highlights the NSJA’s journey while underscoring journalism’s crucial role in society—fostering professionalism and ultimately striving towards press freedom. – DayakDaily
