KUCHING, April 23: Serian District Council (SDC) newly sworn-in chairman Dato Peter Minos plans to elevate Serian District Council (SDC) to municipal status, replicating his successful initiative with the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) over the last decade.

At the same time, he will lead the council in identifying and implementing new tourism projects while also encouraging private sector investment in agricultural development. These initiatives align with the Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s vision to transform Serian into a “mini New Zealand”, a commitment Minos intends to pursue.

“(It) is not easy, but can be done,” Minos said at the swearing-in ceremony for SDC’s chairman and council members.

He also emphasised on the urgent need for the construction of a new SDC headquarters as the old building is outdated and overcrowded for the council’s more than 100 staff members.

He noted that the old building was built in the colonial-era and therefore, it is high time for a new one. – DayakDaily
