KUCHING, April 23: Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has raised concerns over the delayed construction of the RM74 million Kampung Medong–Lebrasau–Kampung Klid Road in the Dalat district, which is now 70 days behind schedule.

Uggah, who is also the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, said a coordination meeting involving the Public Works Department (JKR), the contractor, consultants, project licensee, and other stakeholders will be held at the end of this month to address the issues affecting the 11.67-kilometre road project.

“The meeting is crucial to resolve the issues currently affecting its completion,” he said, according to a press release.

As of now, the project stands at 48.56 per cent completion, short of the 55.62 per cent progress it should have achieved. In addition to the road itself, the project also includes the construction of three bridges across Sungai Lebrasau, Sungai Peluan, and Sungai Klid. Completion is slated for the end of January next year.

“That is why we always turun padang (going on the ground) to check on the progress of project implementation.

“We want to ensure that all approved projects are implemented properly and completed on schedule. These site visits also allow us to identify any issues faced by contractors.

“Together with JKR, we will work to resolve them,” Uggah added.

The minister also highlighted that Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had recently stressed the need for JKR and other agencies to play their part in ensuring timely completion of development projects.

Mukah MP Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib, who accompanied Uggah during the site visit, expressed her appreciation for his personal commitment in monitoring projects within her constituency. — DayakDaily
