Tasik Biru Resort City to launch May 15, paving way for Bau’s rise as global tourism hub

KUCHING, April 23: The launch of the Tasik Biru Resort City is set to mark a significant milestone in transforming Bau into an international-standard tourism hub while simultaneously boosting the district’s economy.

A landmark development is set to be officially launched on May 15, coinciding with Bau’s 205th Anniversary and the Pesta Tasik Biru 2025 celebrations, which will take place from May 15 to 25, according to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report.

Ukas also reported that Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is scheduled to officiate the ceremony at the Tasik Biru Resort City’s main stage at 10am.

Describing it as a turning point in achieving balanced progress between modern development and cultural preservation, Sarawak Deputy Minister for Transport (Riverine and Marine), Dato Henry Harry Jinep, said the festival not only celebrates Bau’s rich heritage but also injects new life into the local economy.

“The development of Tasik Biru Resort City adds significant value to Sarawak’s tourism sector while strengthening the local economy for the benefit of the people,” he told reporters during a press conference at his office in Baitulmakmur I here today.

The 11-day festival will feature a variety of cultural and sporting events, including the Jong Regatta – a symbol of Bau’s unique heritage – the Bau Sports Carnival with football, e-sports, and badminton tournaments, as well as arm wrestling, traditional cooking contests, Zumba sessions, a Talent Night, and the Miss and Mrs Tasik Biru pageants.

Henry also announced a Unity Parade on May 24 to celebrate ethnic harmony, alongside the lighting ceremony of the Tasik Biru Bridge and a fireworks display.

Meanwhile, the Gawai Bazaar Bau will operate daily from 9am to 11pm, showcasing local products, traditional foods, and vibrant nightly performances including cultural shows and busking.

Henry, who is also Tasik Biru assemblyman, urged Sarawakians—especially Bau residents—to participate in the colourful celebration.

“Let us come together to celebrate our cultural uniqueness, community spirit, and regional development with pride and unity,” he said.

He expressed confidence that Pesta Tasik Biru 2025 will set a new benchmark in positioning Bau as a top tourism destination in Sarawak while creating more opportunities for the local community. — DayakDaily
