Sibu Jaya Water Fiesta draws over 10,000 participants

SIBU, Oct 7: The annual Sibu Jaya Water Fiesta held at Sibu Jaya Boulevard was a big hit with more than 10,000 people participating in it today.

The event, the fourth in its series was organised by Amcorp Group Sdn Bhd (Amcorp) in collaboration with the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC).

People from near and far were attracted by a variety of activities with the main attraction being the Sibujaya style of the Songkran.


Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah commended that the event creates a strong family institution.

“Families in this area have come all come together with their children to have fun at this event.

“Therefore, it (water fiesta) is good for family bonding and the family institution,” he said when met by reporters after officiating the programme here today (Oct 7).

Karim also highlighted the event’s ability to foster stronger connections among people from diverse backgrounds in the area.

“We are aware that Sibu Jaya is home to a diverse, multi-racial population, including Dayak, Malays, and Chinese residents.

“When they come together in events like this, it promotes better relationships among these different ethnic groups,” he added.

Karim commended Amcorp for its dedication to developing Sibu Jaya and for organising an event reminiscent of Thailand’s Songkran festival.

“Amcorp is a company that has played a significant role in developing this area from a very small region to a fully developed satellite town, for that reason, we express our gratitude to AmCorp Group,” he added.

Meanwhile, Amcorp executive chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim expressed his gratitude for the substantial support from the state government in developing Sibu Jaya to its current state.

“We hope that the state government will continue to support us in the development of Sibu Jaya and its programmes,” he said.
