[VIDEO] Borneo Sonic Music Fest Day 1: CL proves still ‘baddest female’, Fatman Scoop teaches crowd ‘how to party’

KUCHING, Oct 7: South Korean rapper and singer-songwriter Lee Chae-rin, better known as CL, headlined the first day of the Borneo Sonic Music Festival last night (Oct 6).

The former leader of Kpop girl group 2NE1, famous for her solo hits such as ‘The Baddest Female’, ‘Lifted’, and ‘Lover Like Me’, had the whole crowd hyped up from the start till the end of her stage.

Many fans held up their mobile phones throughout CL’s performance to record the memorable sight of the K-pop star in Kuching, Sarawak.

CL also brought Blackjacks (2NE1’s fandom name) down memory lane as she performed the group’s songs, namely ‘Fire’ and ‘I Don’t Care’.

Apart from CL, fellow South Korean singer and member of Girls’ Generation (SNSD) Kim Hyo-yeon also performed solo as DJ Hyo.

During her stage, she showed off her mixing skills that had everyone dancing on their feet, which was also a testament to her immense talents apart from being known as a main dancer and rapper in SNSD.

Day 1 also featured American rapper Isaac Freeman III, aka Fatman Scoop, who played a DJ mix set combining various hip-hop tracks.

He also pulled an impressive stage by interacting with the audience and controlling the large crowd to follow his lead as if he were teaching them ‘how to party’.

Taiwanese rappers Majin and 7LING (Nike Chen) were two more international acts who awed the crowd with their dope rapping skills.

Other performers comprised local Malaysian acts, namely soulful voice Ning Baizura, Sabah-born singer Andi Bernadee, R&B duo Guccimith and Zhe Kamil, and Kuching-born Yungkai and Keeyushee (Kiyoshi Aihara).

It was also reported that Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and wife, Datin Sri Zuraini Abdul Jabbar; deputy ministers Dato Sebastian Ting and Dato Snowdan Lawan, were present to watch the performances last night.

The two-day Borneo Sonic Music Festival will continue tonight with another amazing lineup comprising multi-instrumentalist Belle Sisoski, rapper Ja-G, singer Jordan Queka, girl group Dolla, South Korean singer-songwriter Suho who is also the leader of boy group Exo, Taiwanese artists Melo Moon & BG8LOCC, Australian DJ Havana Brown and most-anticipated South Korean singer-songwriter Taeyang of Big Bang.

BME (International) Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Skyline Entertainment and Dream Factory Entertainment jointly organised the music festival.
