Sheda: Mass recalibration of migrant workers for Sheda members in Sarawak

KUCHING, Oct 18: Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers’ Association (Sheda) has embarked on a private initiative to assist in the ‘recalibration programme for migrant construction workers’ in Sarawak.

Sheda president Augustine C. H. Wong, in a statement today, said it is part of the association’s initiative to relieve the current shortages of workers in the construction industry.

“The key objective of Sheda embarking on this initiative is to ensure its members who require to legalize their qualified migrant construction workers (with expired work permits, expired pass and requiring to change employers), could be fast tracked and processed in a smooth manner.

“SHEDA will guide and educate its member companies and their sub-contractors on the correct processes and procedures of submission for the purpose of recalibration of these workers,” he said.

To date, he added, with the kind assistance rendered by Immigration Department Sarawak, Sheda has successfully submitted a number of applications, followed by necessary interviews in accordance with the strict procedures and requirements of the relevant authorities.

Meanwhile, in anticipation of Sarawak starting to open its economy in stages, Wong said Sheda members and their sub-contractors in need of approved permits or licenses to employ new foreign construction workers, are encouraged to apply and get these necessary permits ready.

According to him, this was to enable Sheda’s members who are in need of new migrant construction workers, to employ these workers when the border is open in the near future.

He said for all the services rendered, a nominal fee will be charged by Sheda to cover for the association’s secretariat expenses, based on successful recalibration cases or applications of new permits.

“For more information, please contact Sheda State Secretariat at 082-366334, 082-366434, or via fax at 082-365001, or email to secretariat@sheda.org.my, or WhatsApp to 016-8972723 or 016-8882856,” he added. — DayakDaily.
