SARIKEI, May 4: The Sarikei District Council has clarified that the numbered parking lots in areas under its jurisdiction are to manage sufficient, systematic, and user-friendly parking for the public.

According to its chairwoman, Wong Zee Yeng, it aims to facilitate the updating of information records and parking lot data, especially for business rental permits and so on.

“It also aims to facilitate the monitoring and enforcement of traffic and parking,” she said.

She said this in response to a Facebook page which claimed that motorists under the council’s jurisdiction would have to pay parking fees soon.

The page also contains a photo of parking lots with numbers indicating that parking fees would be enforced.

She added that the council has not yet enforced parking fees despite the Road Transport (Provision of Parking Places) Order 2007, which should have been implemented on July 1, 2007, and is still waiting for further instructions. — DayakDaily
