KUCHING, May 4: Three bridges are slated for construction under the Nanga Kabah-Nanga Melipis Road Project in Song, Kapit.

Work Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi in a statement today said the project, which is implemented under Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKDW), is a road project in the Rural Road category involving phase one of three overall phases that connect Nanga Kabah to Nanga Melipis.

“It will include an R3 standard Kabah River Bridge (72 meters), Beguang River Bridge (62 meters), and Temiang River Bridge (62 meters),” he said.

Nanta, who is also Kapit MP, added that the Department of Irrigation and Drainage has been appointed as the implementing agency for this phase 1 road and bridge project.

The 16.375 kilometers first phase project will benefit more than 3,000 local residents, improve socioeconomics, create a road network to two schools and become an important land access to Kanowit Town and Sibu town which will connect to the Pan Borneo Highway.

The Ministry of Public Works (KKR) also has a follow-up plan for the construction of this road project, which is the construction of a two-way bridge across Batang Rejang that connects the Nanga Menuan/Nanga Setepus road to the Song-Kapit road along approximately 900 meters and 600 meters to the new road near Kapit and Pekan Song. — DayakDaily
