Sarawak’s Pan Borneo Highway at 89 pct completion, set to fully open by mid-2023

SIBU, Nov 14: The Pan Borneo Highway project in Sarawak is now at 89 per cent completion and is expected to be fully opened to road users by the middle of next year.

Caretaker Senior Minister of Works Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof said the project’s first phase, which began in October 2015, encompasses a total road length of 786km divided into 11 work packages stretching from Telok Melano to Miri.


The work package and sections which have been completed and opened to the public are the Telok Melano to Sematan, which was fully completed on Jan 6, 2019; Batang Rajang Bridge Section (Oct 9, 2021); Julau Section of WPC7 from Bintangor Junction to Sungai Kua Bridge (Oct 28, 2021); Serian Section of WPC3 from Serian Roundabout to Balai Ringin (Dec 4, 2021); Nyabau Section of WPC10 from Nyabau Junction to Sungai Tangap (Jan 26, 2022); Pujut Section of WPC11 from Sungai Tangap to Pujut Link Road (July 2, 2022); and Sri Aman Flyover of WPC4 from Pantu Junction to Batang Skrang (Sept 4, 2022).

“Meanwhile, the latest overall progress of the construction of Sarawak’s Pan Borneo Highway project for the remaining 10 work packages from Sematan to Miri, which is currently being implemented, is 89 per cent with expected completion in the first quarter of 2023,” he said during the opening ceremony of the Selangau Section under WPC8 from Sungai Kua Bridge to Sungai Arip Bridge at Selangau flyover here today.

Fadillah, also Petra Jaya incumbent, further apologised for the inconvenience caused to road users during the construction of the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway Project.

“I hope for a little more time that, at least by the middle of next year, it is fully hoped that this road can be completed and provide comfort and safety to our users,” he added. – DayakDaily
