Sarawak to explore USD1.5 bln solar, renewable energy investment with CRE International

KUCHING, Oct 11: CRE International Co. Limited (CRE International) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with InvestSarawak to jointly explore an investment of USD 1.5 billion (RM6.44 billion) for solar and other renewable energy projects in Sarawak.

The MoU was signed today at the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, and Investment (MINTRED) Sarawak office, in a ceremony witnessed by Deputy Premier and MINTRED Sarawak Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

In a press statement, InvestSarawak revealed that the partnership aims to develop renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and energy storage solutions with a projected capacity of 2 gigawatts.

These initiatives are expected to strengthen Sarawak’s position in the renewable energy sector and support its clean energy agenda.

“These projects will significantly boost Sarawak’s renewable energy sector and contribute to the region’s sustainability goals,” the statement said.

The MoU outlines a collaboration to identify suitable locations for the projects, establish commercial and financial frameworks, and coordinate with local authorities for effective implementation.

Awang Tengah emphasised the importance of partnering with international companies like CRE International to expedite Sarawak’s energy transition.

“This collaboration is a pivotal moment in Sarawak’s journey towards becoming a leader in renewable energy in the region,” he said. — DayakDaily
