MUKAH, April 26: The annual staging of the iconic Kaul Mukah festival not only preserves and strengthens the cultural heritage of the Melanau community but also drives positive growth in the local tourism and economic sectors.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg emphasised that the festival provides opportunities for small entrepreneurs, promotes local products, and introduces Mukah as a unique tourism destination to visitors from across Malaysia and abroad.

“Kaul Mukah is a treasured cultural legacy passed down through generations of the Melanau people, rich in symbolism, customs, and spiritual traditions.

“It stands as a proud symbol of the Melanau identity and, at the same time, serves as compelling proof of the rich cultural diversity that defines our beloved Sarawak,” he said in a speech delivered by Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, during the official launch of Kaul Mukah 2025 at the Kaul Mukah site of Pantai Kala Dana today.

“With a strong spirit of unity, deep cultural appreciation, and the collective support of all stakeholders, Kaul Mukah will continue to flourish as a grand heritage of the Melanau people and a source of pride for all Sarawakians,” he said.
