KUCHING, June 19: Sarawak Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) will monitor chicken prices to prevent traders from profiteering following expected price increases in July.

Sarawak KPDNHEP chief enforcement officer Peter J Berinus Agang said the ministry will also deploy its enforcement officers on the ground as part of the efforts.

“This is to ensure that traders will not reap unreasonable profits,” he told reporters during a press conference held after the Keluarga Malaysia Sales Programme (PJKM) walkabout at Everrise Supermarket in Metrocity, Matang, today.

On June 17, KPDNHEP warned traders against profiteering following the expected increase of chicken prices in July.

Meanwhile, Peter said as of June 16, PJKM has been implemented in 154 locations covering all Parliamentary and State constituencies, including opposition constituencies with total sales reaching RM4.531 million.

He said during the implementation of PJKM, various daily necessities are sold at special prices, including items such as chicken meat, chicken eggs, cooking oil, sugar, flour and vegetables.

He added, in addition to the prices offered by strategic partners, contributions from Members of Parliament and local State assemblymen have also helps to reduce the prices of goods offered during PJKM, which are much cheaper than regular prices. — DayakDaily
