KUCHING, Jan 16: There is sufficient chicken supply for the whole of Sarawak, said Deputy Minister for Utilities and Communications, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

According to Dr Abdul Rahman, the local processing factories can meet the increase in demand, even during the festive seasons.

“In total, there are 80 outlets selling chicken throughout Sarawak,” he told reporters after visiting a poultry processing factory along Jalan Penrissen today.

Meanwhile, Dr Abdul Rahman said so far (out of 80 outlets), only four have received halal certification issued by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) and Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS).

“The outlets are Choice Ria Supermarket Sales Outlet in Astana, Choice Ria Supermarket Sales Outlet in Jalan Ajibah Abol, Choice Ria Supermarket Sales Outlet in Semariang, and CCK Matang Sales Outlet,” he added.

On the same note, Dr Abdul Rahman recommends for the rest of the outlets that have yet to receive their halal certification help expedite the process (of issuing the certificate).

He also said those who have applied for it must comply with the guidelines for issuing the halal certificate. — DayakDaily
